Kevin Vigilante, M.D., M.P.H
At Brown University from 1987 to 2000, Dr. Vigilante served
as a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine and the Director
of Ambulatory and Emergency Services at the Miriam Hospital.
He played a critical role in developing a network of care for
indigent and incarcerated populations that was part of a wider
program cited by JAMA as a national model. Prior to
that he served as the Director of the first Primary Care Practice
at the Yale University affiliated West Haven Veterans’
Administration Medical Center, and was Director of the Medical
Emergency Room at the Yale New Haven Hospital. He is currently
business consulting to the NIH National Center for Minority
Health and Health Disparities (NCMHD). In this activity he is
helping this new NIH Center develop a strategic plan for research
and community outreach for the next five years. Immediately
prior he consulted to the Veteran’s Administration on
the CARES project helping prepare for the major demographic
shifts that will occur in the next 10-20 years. Throughout his
medical career he has successfully integrated direct patient
care, teaching, hospital administration, clinical research,
and community service. He has published widely, from academic
literature to the NY Times, on topics ranging from
nutrition, to HIV, to health policy. Dr Vigilante received a
B.A. from Johns Hopkins University, an M.D. from Cornell University
Medical College, completed residency training at Yale New Haven
Hospital, and received an M.P.H. from the Harvard School of
Public Health.
